Windows 11 25H2 Known Issues and Fixes: 2025 Update Problems

Windows 11 version 25H2, also known as the Windows 11 2025 Update, introduced several new features but also brought a wave of bugs affecting users across Dallas-Fort Worth and beyond.

Current Known Issues in Windows 11 25H2

Critical Issues

Remote Desktop Connection Failures

After installing January 2026 security updates, remote desktop connections may fail with credential prompt errors. This affects:

  • Windows App connections
  • Azure Virtual Desktop
  • Windows 365
  • Traditional Remote Desktop connections

Fix: Install out-of-band update KB5077744 from Microsoft Update Catalog.

Shutdown and Hibernate Problems

Devices with Secure Launch enabled may fail to shut down or hibernate properly.

Symptoms:

  • Computer hangs on shutdown screen
  • Hibernate option doesn’t work
  • Force shutdown required

Fix: Disable Secure Launch in BIOS/UEFI settings temporarily, or wait for Microsoft’s patch.

High-Impact Issues

Smart Card Authentication Failures

After October 2025 security update, smart card authentication may not work correctly:

  • Smart cards not recognized as CSP providers
  • Unable to sign documents digitally
  • Certificate-based authentication failures

Fix: Microsoft is working on a resolution. Temporary workaround involves using 64-bit applications instead of 32-bit.

UI Component Crashes

Start menu, taskbar, and File Explorer may crash or become unresponsive.

Symptoms:

  • Start menu won’t open
  • Taskbar disappears
  • File Explorer freezes frequently

Fix: Run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth commands.

Moderate Issues

DRM Content Playback Problems

Protected content in streaming apps and Blu-ray/DVD players may not work properly.

Affected applications:

  • Digital TV tuner apps
  • Blu-ray player software
  • Some streaming applications

Fix: Microsoft released KB5064081 to address this. Install latest updates.

Printer Discovery Issues

Network printers may disappear or show as offline after the update.

Symptoms:

  • Printers vanish from device list
  • “Printer offline” status
  • Unable to add network printers

Fix: Delete and re-add printers through Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.

Camera and Windows Hello Problems

Integrated cameras may not work for face detection features.

Affected features:

  • Windows Hello facial recognition
  • Camera app object detection
  • Video conferencing apps

Fix: Safeguard hold was removed September 2025. Update to latest version.
