Try This First (Safe DIY Checks)

These steps are safe for anyone and fix the easy cases. The last step tells you when to stop.

1. 1 Check the simple stuff first: is the outlet live (test a lamp), the power strip on, and the cable firmly seated at both ends?
2. 2 Look for the power supply switch on the back of the tower — it should be on the line (I), not the circle (O).
3. 3 Unplug the power cable, hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual charge, plug back in, try again.
4. 4 When you press power, listen and look: any fans, lights, or beeps? Beeps are a diagnostic code — count the pattern.
5. 5 If the tower turns on but the screen stays black, test the monitor: check its input setting and try a different cable or port.
6. 6 No lights, no fans, no sound at all usually means the power supply or motherboard — that's a workbench job, stop there.
